The process of building up a constant high stress resistance, is a long-term process. Furthermore it is an individual process and also depends on the dedication of yourself towards building up a daily breathing routine. If your stress resistance varies quite significant from time to time, you should make sure that all your measurements are taking place under similar conditions. Additionally have a look at the following aspects.

Make sure that environment you are measuring in, is as calm as possible and there are no distractions
Try to breathe deep and calm (for further instructions look at “how should I breathe?” question)
Make sure the lens on your phone is clean
Make sure that your finger is clean
Try to keep movement of finger and phone as low as possible while measuring
Carefully press your finger on the lens of the camera, not on the light.
Another and maybe the most important issue is, that you should give yourself time to build up a constant high stress resistance. The more concentrated and frequently you will do these exercises the faster you will see general improvements.

How do I take this calm feeling during exericeses to the rest of the day?

In general the more concentrated you will do the exercises, the more relaxed and calm you will be during the day. Moreover, it is very important that the exercises will become part of your daily routine, as this will in the long-term give you overall more calmness.

Nevertheless, no matter, how high your stress resistance is, there is no doubt that there will be situations where you will feel stressed. However, it is about being less affected by stressful situations and being able to regain your calm much quicker after stressful situations. And increasing your stress resistance constantly will help you with that.

What is the stress resistance and how is it measured?

Stress resistance indicates how well you can cope with stressful situations. It specifies how well your mind and body can adopt to stressful circumstances. The more pronounced  your stress resistance, the more you will be able to manage stressful situations positevly. This means on the one hand being less affected during a stressful situation, and on the other hand being able to regain your calm much quicker.

Stress resistance is measured by the Heart Rate Variability, which is determined by the beat-to-beat intervals of your heart. Furthermore the App is able to calculate an RMSSD score, which shows the rhythimc variability of the heart and is also a prime indicator of the stress resistance.

How should I breathe?

Start by sitting comfortably on a chair without slouching. Since we will use a deep breathing technique, please make sure no tight clothes or belt are keeping you from relaxing your belly.

If hindered by your clothes, you will end up using your chest muscles instead of your abdomen.

REDISCOVER NATURAL BREATHING

Deep breathing is also called diaphragmatic breathing. Using the diagphragm, a sheet muscle below your lungs is the most natural and relaxed way of breathing and can be observed in babies and the way their belly expands when they inhale.

Unfortunately, many of us have lost this very natural skill and need some practice to regain it.

BREATHE INTO THE BELLY

When you first train your deep breathing skills, it might be helpful to put a hand on your belly to become aware of its movements. Now breathe in naturally and feel how the air fills your belly. When it leaves your lungs, observe the movement of your hand resting on your abdomen. Repeat this process as long as you like.

You can also change the position of your hand and move it to your chest to check for unhealthy chest breathing.

At first, deep breathing might feel unnatural, but as you continue to practice, you will find that is way more efficient in reducing stress than breathing with your chest muscles.

What happens if I miss a exercise?

In general the journey will work best if you try to do as many exercises as possible. However, if you miss an exercise it is not dramatic. The most important aspect is that you try to do the exercises under the same conditions.
